NO ADDED SALT PLEASE!

The WHO has just released their new set of guidelines ( 2012 ) on salt intake for the community. The recommendation is that we should not take in more than 2gms of sodium daily or now more than 5 grams of salt daily. 5 grams of salt is equivalent to about 1 teaspoonful of salt.

This is 5 grams of salt

I am sure ( previous postings ) we know that increase salt intake is well co-related to increase incidence of hypertension and strokes. I will update when new data is published.

NO ADDED SALT PLEASE. LESS STROKES PLEASE.

Doc, I noticed that in the case of sugar, the manufacturer of beverages, especially those involved with 3-in-1 coffee and/or tea, are very reluctant to state the actual amount of sugar per 100 gms of content.
In fact, some of them would just list the number of calories rather than the actual amount of sugar on their labels!!!
There should be mandatory regulations for them to put all the ingredients in their drinks or foodstuff as gm per 100 gm of contents on the label.
Also, should one lay off putting sugar in one's coffee or tea entirely?
Thank you.
